Fort Cavazos conducts survey to improve quality of life for soldiers and families

FORT CAVAZOS, Texas – The Fort Cavazos Health Department is conducting an analysis of the community’s strengths and issues.

“It is an online survey for our Fort Cavazos community to let us know their perceptions of the resources we have available to them,” said Lt. Col. Theresa Suggs, Fort Cavazos Health Department director.

“It’s everywhere,” said Lt. Col. Suggs.

“It affects our gyms, our child care, our spiritual services. Basically, it’s anything that could impact their quality of life positively or negatively.”

Improving the quality of life for soldiers and their families is a mission in which VFW Post 12209 at Fort Cavazos continually participates. 25 messages met with their commander Willie Keller.

“When you hear the term quality of life, what does that mean to you as a retiree or when you were still a soldier on active duty?” asked 25 messages Reporter Adam Schindler.

“When I think about quality of life today, I think about giving his family something nice,” said Willie Keller, commander of VFW Post 12209.

“We are currently building new accommodation on the site – that is still a work in progress. We have improved the accommodation and the quality of life for the soldiers living there – that is getting better, and the quality of the food is also getting better.”

Keller believes that more can be done to reduce soldiers’ downtime.

“What do we have for the families when they go home and for the soldiers when they finish work,” Keller said.

“Not only those with families, but also the single soldier.”

These are exactly the kinds of things the Community Strengths and Themes Assessment is designed to convey.

Even Lt. Col. Suggs wants to improve things because they affect her family too.

“That is definitely the case, I conducted the survey,” said Lt. Col. Suggs.

“There are resources and depending on where you are in your life, the things you need may be different. That’s why I focus more on school-age children, after-school care and resources.”

The assessment is an online survey that allows the Fort Cavazos Health Department to hear directly from the people of Fort Cavazos about what needs are not being met.
