Former Warren County teacher charged with stealing from student fundraiser

MCMINNVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) – Our children are working hard in schools across the state – both in the classroom and after school.

Your success is important, and that’s why this story will catch many people’s attention: A former Warren County teacher and club leader has now been charged with theft and fraud after stealing from student fundraisers over several years.

The State Comptrollers Office – a state financial oversight agency – began investigating Jamie Branin, a former Warren County High School teacher.

According to the Comptroller’s Office, Branin took money from students she mentored in the Future Business Leaders of America Club, which raised funds over several years by selling candy bars and meat sticks.

Now Branin has been indicted by a Warren County grand jury on charges including theft and forgery, teaching the club’s students a lesson they learned outside the classroom.

“The lesson here is that we all have personal responsibility and make smart choices,” said Warren County Schools Superintendent Grant Swallows. “When we do that, everything goes well, when we choose not to, there are consequences.”

She is over 80 and almost blind. Woman from Franklin continues to crochet for those in need

“Here’s a great story that proves that everyone has something to give, regardless of age OR personal challenges. Our Austin Pollack introduces us to Ms. Sylvia Mooney. At 80 years old, she is not sitting still. Instead, she is using her skills to create compassion for others… one stitch at a time. Her crochet work goes to nonprofits to help our homeless neighbors. You might be surprised to know that she manages to do all of this while battling a serious health issue. Bravo Sylvia!”
