Highlights

  • Captain America: Brave New World will introduce Adamantium and possibly the Leader as a villain, setting the stage for future MCU storylines.
  • The film could depict a crucial event at the Celestial Island Summit and focus on the transformation of liquid adamantium into metal.
  • There are concerns about how the film will handle its antagonists, possibly avoiding falling into the MCU’s villain problem.

Captain America: Brave New World It may still be months away from release, but the upcoming entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is already doing a great job of building the world of the shared universe, as the film’s recent promo clips reveal an interesting new addition to the MCU.

Captain America: Brave New World is the fourth part of the Captain America film series and as a direct sequel to the 2021 Disney+ show Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and will be the first main MCU project to feature Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson as the new Captain America. While expectations for the film are high, including Captain America: Brave New World Since a satisfactory comparison between Sam Wilson and his predecessor Steve Rogers is necessary, there is very little to say about the film overall, because although some promotional material was released, little was said about the large number of questions fans have about the project.

For a few, Marvel’s recent screening at D23 offered a taste of some new footage from the upcoming Captain America film, and although it is not yet available everywhere, part of the preview will be of particular interest to long-time Marvel fans. According to ComicBookMovies coverage at D23, eCaptain America: Brave New World finally visits the heavenly corpse in the ocean in Eternal, the film that first introduced the Celestials into the MCU in one of its own trailers. According to the report, during a commercial for Brave new world, Newly elected President of the United States, Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, hosts a Celestial Island Summit event where he announces that a new mineral called Adamantium has been found in the remains of the Celestial.

It was rumored early on that Captain America: Brave New World would introduce this superior material to the MCU, and now that claim has been confirmed, right down to the source of the material. If the rest of the leak is to be believed, the film’s plot will see Japan first convert the liquid adamantium into the more popular metal form, best known for coating Wolverine’s skeleton and giving him his signature blade attack power. Elsewhere, it has also been used to create a second shield for Captain America, so its inclusion here is fitting and possibly even a hint at a future storyline. Additionally, this rumor also claims that this initial supply will be looted by the Leader, a longtime foe of the Hulk and another villainous presence in the film, as it is discovered early on that this version of the material absorbs radiation.

There’s a long list of things the MCU needs to get done before it can properly introduce several new characters and storylines, and the addition of Adamantium to the mix seems like a step in the right direction. While this won’t really come into its own until the X-Men, and Wolverine in particular, are fully integrated into the franchise, it’s smart to have the metal in canon beforehand. As for its potential significance to the actual plot, everyone will just have to wait and see whether or not the leaks and rumors turn out to be true. If all works out, the Leader’s interest in the metal could lie in its effectiveness against gamma-powered characters like the Hulks. There’s a distinct possibility that the actual plot of the story has been drastically changed since then, with extensive and expensive reshoots around the set of Brave new world. The film’s production has been in trouble for some time, and the Russo brothers were reportedly brought in at the last minute to save the project.

The one thing Captain America: Brave New World definitely needs to be careful about is how it treats its antagonists. This has long been a major problem for Marvel projects, and even the MCU’s recent triumph Deadpool and Wolverine suffers from that franchise-wide villain problem. With a much more grounded look and feel that makes the film much more reliant on a well-written, believable threat, the next Captain America must be particularly careful to avoid this trap.

Captain America: Brave New World The theatrical release is currently planned for February 14, 2025.
