First trailer for the vampire film by Line of Duty star Kelly Macdonald

The first trailer for the new vampire thriller The Radleyswith Exercise of dutyby Kelly Macdonald, was released.

The film is based on the novel of the same name by Matt Haig and is about a married couple who hide a dark secret from their children: they are vampires.

The film will have its world premiere on Tuesday, August 20th at the upcoming Edinburgh International Film Festival.

It is one of 18 world premieres of the relaunched festival, which opens with the new film by Saoirse Ronan and Paapa Essiedu. The Outrun.

“The Radleys are an ordinary family with a dark secret… they are teetotal vampires,” says the film’s official synopsis.

“As if teenage life wasn’t bad enough, bloodthirsty instincts take over the family’s teenagers, bringing the horrific truth to light and opening the door for another family member to come back and turn the Radleys’ once-perfect slice of suburbia upside down.”

The creepy trailer shows Macdonald’s character Helen and her husband Peter (Damien Lewis) trying to appear “normal” in their everyday lives.

When their children begin to show unusual symptoms, Helen and Peter explain to them that they are vampires.

“Is that a metaphor?” asks her son Rowan (Harry Baxendale), to which Peter explicitly replies: “It’s a simple biological truth.”

“It makes you vulnerable to certain cravings,” Helen adds, staring hungrily at a red milkshake spilled on the floor.

As the family tries to suppress their bloodlust, Peter’s brother Will, a practicing vampire, arrives to clean up the recent murder of their daughter Clara (Bo Bragason).

“Drinking blood is pure bliss,” he admits, before the family’s life is turned upside down by their increasing thirst for blood.

Directed by Euros Lyn, the film also stars Sophia Di Martino, Shaun Parkes, Jay Lycurgo and Siân Phillips. Haig’s novel was adapted for the screen by Jo Brand and Talitha Stevenson.

When filming began in June 2023, it was reported that The Radleys is scheduled to be released on Sky Cinema in the UK and Ireland in 2024. A release date has not yet been set.

As for Macdonald, the actor has also landed a role in the new Netflix crime series Department Q, next to Downton AbbeyMatthew Goode and The Queen’s Gambit with Chloe Pirrie as the leading actress.

The Radleys celebrates its world premiere on August 20th at the Edinburgh International Film Festival.
