First day of school for the students of Elton Elementary

First day of school for the students of Elton Elementary

It’s time to set your alarms, pack your backpacks and get ready for the new school year!

On their first day, students at Elton Elementary School were welcomed to a new school and new classrooms.

Five-year-old Ronni Courville said she was excited to start first grade.

“I like (the school) because you can play and go outside,” Courville said.

With the renovation of the school and eight new classrooms, Courville is facing a challenge that it is keen to take on.

“I will be far away because I am in this new building,” Courville said.

Students and staff at Elton no longer have to travel long distances to get from one building to another.

A four million dollar construction project is nearing completion and consultant Adrienne Miller said it is something everyone has been waiting for.

“The students were just so excited (on their first day),” Miller said. “There’s so much excitement on their faces… it’s an exciting time!”

Change is no longer in sight. It is finally here.

Superintendent John Hall said this construction project is long overdue and the safety of students, staff and visitors is the top priority.

“The old building was about 70 years old and was built pretty quickly,” Hall said. “So we’ve always had problems with the condition of the building over the last 20 years.”
