Firefighters rescue man and dog from burning house in Gwinnett County

ATLANTA, Georgia (Atlanta News First) – A man and a dog were rescued from a burning home in Gwinnett County early Wednesday morning, according to the county fire department.

At around 2:35 a.m., firefighters were called to the home in the 3500 block of River Drive SW in Lawrenceville. One person was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while two others were treated at the scene. The dog received oxygen via a pet mask.

Firefighters were alerted to the situation when a woman called 911 to say her house was on fire and her family of four was trying to escape. When firefighters arrived, the woman’s brother was still in the house, she said.

Firefighters began spraying water on the fire and went inside to rescue the man and his pet. During the fire, the main floor partially collapsed and the rear deck became dilapidated, fire officials said.

The fire was extinguished around 3:30 a.m. The American Red Cross will assist the four victims.

The fire department assumes that the flames were caused by an electrical fire. They called on the population to carry out escape drills at home and to set up a common meeting point outside, for example a mailbox or a tree.
