Father launches fundraiser for 2-year-old killed by drunk driver in Fort Worth

The father of a toddler who died in a car crash on Interstate 35 in Fort Worth wants to raise money for his funeral.

Amiyah Lashae Rose Fisher, 2, was one of five people who died Monday when suspected drunk driver 19-year-old Eduardo Gonzalez struck the victims’ car near the East Seminary Drive exit, causing it to catch fire.

“We are all devastated by the loss of Amiyah Lashae Rose Fisher and were not prepared for the high cost of a funeral,” said the child’s father, Eddie Fisher, in the GoFundMe campaign he organized. “We want to give Amiyah the memorial she deserves, honor her beautiful memory and say our final goodbyes to her.”

The goal of the GoFundMe campaign is to raise $5,000.

Willie Gunn and his girlfriend Amber Hopewell – the 2-year-old’s mother – were identified by family as the two adults killed in the crash. Hopewell’s two other children – ages 4 and 9 – also died.

Gonzalez, who was driving a Chevrolet Camaro, is being held in the Tarrant County Jail on five counts of manslaughter while intoxicated by vehicle, according to Fort Worth police.

He was arrested at the scene. Police said they found containers of alcohol in Gonzalez’s vehicle and he showed signs of intoxication.

Gonzalez was traveling at high speed when he struck the victims’ vehicle, investigators said.

Members of Gunn’s family have also launched a GoFundMe campaign to cover his funeral expenses but want answers about his death.

Gunn made his living as a DoorDash driver, his niece Jacresia Gunn told the Star-Telegram. That’s what her uncle was doing when the five were struck by Gonzalez’s vehicle.

The hardest thing for Willie Gunn’s family is that no one has contacted them about his death, said Jacresia Gunn. They have had to make all the phone calls themselves, his niece said. They are currently trying to contact an investigator assigned to the case and have tried to reach him, including through phone calls and messages, but have not yet received a response, she said.

Willie Gunn’s family is demanding that law enforcement hold Gonzalez accountable and review police reports.

“They didn’t even have a chance to live their lives,” Jacresia Gunn said of Hopewell’s three children.

As of Thursday, $815 of the $5,000 goal had been raised.
