The Farmington School Board is expected to appoint acting Superintendent Kelly Coffin as Christopher Delgado’s permanent successor at a special meeting Tuesday night.
In an Aug. 9 statement, the district announced Coffin as the likely successor to the superintendent position and announced it would begin discussions to fill a vacant seat on the board.
“With respect to the superintendent vacancy, the school board will discuss the appointment of Dr. Kelly Coffin and take appropriate action,” the statement said. “The board views the current acting superintendent (Coffin) as the ideal candidate to provide the desired stability in the short term while the board seeks more comprehensive feedback in determining a permanent solution.”
Coffin, the former assistant superintendent for innovation and strategic initiatives, was named interim superintendent on July 28 after Delgado accepted the position of assistant superintendent of the Oakland Schools Intermediate School District on July 9.
Coffin has been in the district since May 2020.
Delgado takes over for former Oakland ISD Assistant Superintendent Kenneth Gutman, who was named to succeed Wanda Cook-Robinson. She will retire on August 30; Gutman will take over on August 31.
The district said it had received “several requests” to fill the seat of Zach Rich, who resigned for residency reasons.
He resigned on July 24.
He ran for office at age 23 and served on the board for seven years, becoming the youngest board president in Farmington schools history when he was selected for the seat in November 2020.
The Board will appoint an individual to fill the vacant position until the November 2024 election, at which time a newly elected Trustee will be sworn in to serve the remainder of the term, which expires December 31, 2024.
The meeting will be held on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. at the Maxfield Education Center, 32789 W. Ten Mile Road.
