Fantasy Baseball SP Summary: Court Nestor

Fantasy Baseball SP Summary: Court Nestor

Welcome to the SP Roundup, my daily fantasy baseball article where I discuss the performance of every starting pitcher from every Thursday game. I apologize in advance for the jokes I wrote in my delirium. Have questions? Ask me during my office hours on Playback.tv weekday mornings from 10 a.m. to noon ET.

Nestor Cortes (New York) against LAA (To) – 4.2 IP, 6 ER, 9 Hits, 1 BBs, 2 Ks – 8 puffs, 17% CW95 parking spaces.

It was not a nice time in the park for Nestor Cortes in the Bronx. Nestor was Selected on this wet and uncomfortable evening, and the game left two runners, both of whom scored, which made the gruesome 4.2 IP, 6 ER, 9 hits, 1 BBs, 2 Ks – 8 whiffs, 17% CSW, 95 throws Line. Oops.

I will give Nestor some leeway on the terms, although we haven’t seen a dominant version of Nestor in a while. This is Nestor’s seventh Starting 3 ER or more in his last eight. That can’t be right. It’s a 6.25 ERA and a 1.44 WHIP over 36.0 IP during that span…before tonight’s game. Oh no.

Before I give you the old “you can absolutely drop him” bit, next up are the CrySox. While I hesitate to call a struggling Tobythat could be a very an easy win and should be seriously considered. Can I drop it afterward? For the Guardians? Definitely.

Let’s see how all the other SPs did on Thursday:

Brenan Hanifee (DET) @ SEA (ND) – 2.0 IP, 0 ER, 0 Hits, 1 BBs, 1 Ks – 2 puffs, 29% CW28 parking spaces.

He opened for 64 throws and 4.1 IP innings of Bryan Sammons, who would have stolen a victory if it hadn’t been for heroics in the ninth inning. He is terrible more and it’s not worth your time trying to guess when he’ll start again. Just try something else.

Tyler Anderson (LAA) @NYY (W) – 6.0 IP, 1 ER, 3 Hits, 1 BBs, 7 Ks – 14 touch, 31% CSW95 parking spaces.

What a year of redemption for Anderson. The change is Despite it so good and he recognizes everything like he should. Here he is beating an elite offense and you have to feel good about the Jays in the future and beyond.

David Peterson (NYM) @COL (W) – 5.0 IP, 1 ER, 4 Hits, 3 BBs, 5 Ks – 16 puffs, 26% CSW88 parking spaces.

Wow, the Rocky Mountains are really that bad, right? No, give Peterson more credit! This Gallows post was a product of legitimate BSB Executed with eight four-seamer whiffs + consistent low changeups and breakers. Big kudos to Peterson as I had little faith in him and maybe he can repeat his performance against the Athletics…hopefully without the three walks.

Kolby Allard (PHI) @ARI (ND) – 5.0 IP, 1 ER, 6 Hits, 0 BBs, 3 Ks – 6 puffs, 25% CSW59 parking spaces.

Oh my goodness, Dralla, here is your Gold Star. Do whatever you want with it, I don’t care. I’m too scared to ask how you earned the damn thing in only 59 throws. I was a bit better with my pitches! YOU ARE SITTING AT 91.

Kevin Gausman (GOAL) against BAL (W) – 8.0 IP, 2 ER, 3 Hits, 3 BBs, 2 Ks – 8 puffs, 24% CSW100 parking spaces.

Damn, look at you! Does this mean he’s back? What? Obviously not. Two strikeouts and eight whiffs – how can he have double-digit whiffs with those numbers?! I have to sound a note of caution when he next faces the Angels. You’re going to finish him off, aren’t you? Don’t bring that energy here. But considering how I just set this all up… probably. PROVE WE’RE WRONG, KEVIN.

Kyle Gibson (STL) against TBR (ND) – 6.0 IP, 2 ER, 8 Hits, 1 BBs, 6 Ks – 11 touch, 26% CW91 parking spaces.

The Rays are pretty damn weak and Gibson has taken advantage of that with a ton of throws over the plate, resulting in a CSW of over 40% on both his sweeper and his four-seamer. We’ll take that all day, even with the 1.50 WHIP.

Kyle Harrison (SFG) @WSN (ND) – 4.2 IP, 2 ER, 5 Hits, 0 BBs, 3 Ks – 5 puffs, 31% CSW61 parking spaces.

You will notice a 2 tick drop in speed, but the rain delay certainly had an impact and you shouldn’t call this an injury-filled outing. So you’re back? Uh, no. Just no injury. Let’s not exaggerate here.

DJ Heart (WSN) against SFG (ND) – 2.2 IP, 2 ER, 4 Hits, 4 BBs, 4 Ks – 5 puffs, 18% CW74 parking spaces.

That was a messy game and Heart was obviously affected by it. They’ll probably be affected by his next matchup against the Orioles, too, so why hold onto that DJ? Put on another record.

Bryan Woo (SEA) against DET (ND) – 6.2 IP, 3 ER, 5 Hits, 1 BBs, 7 Ks – 9 puffs, 32% CSW88 parking spaces.

IT HAPPENS. That’s two starts with 90 throws and we see the results follow. King Cole Powered by 9/26 strikes on non-fastballs (35% strikes!), this is great stuff, especially when said secondary pitches are hitting the zone frequently. That’s all we need – consistent strikes from slower pitches to complement the excellent heaters. It all comes together…

Hunter Greene (CIN) @MIA (ND) – 6.0 IP, 3 ER, 6 Hits, 2 BBs, 5 Ks – 11 touch, 28% CW108 parking spaces.

Aces become … almost a VPQS and Four-Seamers are hard to locate in the forbidden land of y-mLoc. Whatever happened to the outstanding Four-Seamer commando above? WHERE DID IT GO?!

Randy Vasquez (SDP) @ GRUBE (ND) – 5.2 IP, 3 ER, 6 Hits, 1 BBs, 3 Ks – 7 puffs, 26% CSW85 parking spaces.

Sooo close to being worth it for a PQSbut otherwise this start gave you nothing. Womp, womp. The command was pretty mediocre and that stuff is nothing to write home about. He might play against the Pirates again, but I’m lukewarm on that. It’s not great potential.

Kyle Tyler (missing) against CIN (ND) – 4.1 IP, 3 ER, 5 hits, 2 BBs, 3 Ks – 14 touch, 33% CSW84 parking spaces.

Two first names and all, but I have to give him credit for only throwing 13% fastballs. Instead, we saw 11/40 misses on curves + sliders, and it was a cutter that came out on top in usage. This cutter has almost the same speed as its four-seamer. Okay, totally fair. Not a good editor. Let’s not do that.

Frankie Montas (MIL) @ATL (ND) – 4.0 IP, 3 ER, 2 Hits, 4 BBs, 7 Ks – 14 touch, 29% CW91 parking spaces.

Montas, all you had to do was finish the fifth frame and you would have won this all-out battle. Sigh. It’s not like I really had him anywhere in the squad, I just wanted him to do something Good, you know? Always rooting for the man with the biggest belly.

Luis L. Ortiz (PIT) against SDP (ND) – 6.0 IP, 4 ER, 4 Hits, 1 BBs, 3 Ks – 7 puffs, 26% CSW92 parking spaces.

A pair of home runs rattled Ortiz at the start, but he settled down and threw four shutout innings to finish with six innings. He is a Toby at best, and I wouldn’t mulligan here in a replay against the Padres. That’s not a good opportunity for productivity.

Jordan Montgomery (ARI) vs. PHI (ND) – 5.2 IP, 4 ER, 8 Hits, 3 BBs, 4 Ks – 12 puffs, 25% CSW92 parking spaces.

We started to see the beard formation on The bear as he carefully Neckbeard…until the sixth frame happened. That’s life. Stupid Phillies ruining everything. I tend to think, though, that Monty was starting to figure it out, which made him a very interesting option for Rockie Street next. Seems like a good launching pad for his attempt to redeem himself this season, right?

Shane Baz (TBR) @STL (ND) – 4.1 IP, 4 ER, 6 hits, 2 BBs, 2 Ks – 8 puffs, 25% CSW91 parking spaces.

The first inning was difficult as Baz had no feel for his heater and was moving away from his breakers until it was too late. After that he settled down nicely but his slider and curve still didn’t work as well as we wanted. Is he just a Cherry Bomb? Maybe. And I hate how unclear it is.

Dean Kremer (BAL) @ GOAL (To) – 4.1 IP, 5 ER, 4 Hits, 5 BBs, 6 Ks – 13 touch, 26% CSW96 parking spaces.

He is a Cherry Bomb without much candy lately. I think you’re better off chasing something else.

Austin Gomber (Split) against NYM (To) – 3.0 IP, 5 ER, 6 Hits, 1 BBs, 1 Ks – 4 puffs, 15% CSW68 parking spaces.

COL history, bro. For those of you who were hoping Austin was the one for you, let’s be glad he decided to pull out of the race. Austin has the House Fantasy team on your own.

Charlie Morton (ATL) against MIL (To) – 2.2 IP, 8 ER, 9 Hits, 1 BBs, 3 Ks – 4 puffs, 27% CW83 parking spaces.

The best Cherry Bomb of all. Play chaotic games, win chaotic prizes.
