Fans of “The Princess Diaries” “cry” because Anne Hathaway criticizes Kelly Clarkson

It’s been nearly two decades since an iconic Disney film hit theaters, and one of its stars is paying tribute to the film in a unique way.

In August 2004, the fans returned to the same level as Anne Hathaway when she starred in the romantic comedy The Princess Diaries 2. A sequel to the 2001 smash hit and based on the successful book series, the film followed Princess Mia as she discovers she must marry in order to take the throne as Queen of Genovia. The film quickly became a cultural phenomenon and also featured Kelly Clarkson‘s single “Breakaway” (from the album of the same name) during the film.

Now, when Anne celebrated the 20th anniversary of The Princess 2 On Instagram, she not only posted photos from behind the scenes of her actors (including Julie Andrews). She also posted a clip from Kelly’s music video in which the singer attends an impromptu premiere of the film.

“Happy 20th anniversary, #PrincessDiaries2 and @kellyclarksons breakaway!” she lovingly captioned the post on August 7.

When fans saw the unique mention Kelly received from Anne, they immediately wrote in the comments to share how much they appreciated this memory.

“20 years later we are still OBSESSED 😍👑,” one person wrote. “But why do I STILL cry when Mia brings the orphans to walk in the parade and this song comes on 😭😭💙,” another responded. “I still sing this at the top of my lungs 😍,” another follower added.

It seems that Anne was not the only one who became nostalgic about The Princess Diaries 2! Kelly later reposted Anne’s video on her own Instagram, while also adding her own cheeky commentary on the music video for “Breakaway.”

Wearing sunglasses on a red carpet in the evening… I thought that was so cool 😂🤦‍♀️,” she jokingly commented on August 8.

Well, should a third Suddenly a Princess If the film comes to fruition, Disney could get Kelly to sing another song on the soundtrack!
