When it first came onto the market in 2001, chestnut‘s day of bad fur was unlike anything else on the market. The game, which ultimately ended up being Rare’s final title for the aging N64, was a major departure from what the respected British developer was known for. Typically, Rare had a reputation for creating exceptional titles for all ages, most of which fit perfectly with Nintendo’s family-friendly branding and target audience. Conker’s Bad Coat Daywas anything but child-friendly. On the contrary, it was raunchy, vulgar and rated 18+ in every way imaginable. With this title, Rare turned the 3D platformer genre on its head and delivered an experience that was filled to the brim with adult humor and a fair amount of violence, swearing and alcohol.

Although it is considered a cult classic today, Conker’s Bad Coat Day was unfortunately a commercial failure when it came out, largely due to its niche appeal, lackluster marketing campaign, and its release at the end of the N64’s lifespan. Because of this, aside from a remake of the title for the original Xbox, Rare never returned to the world of chestnut after the publication of Bad coat day. Given that it has been more than 20 years since Bad coat dayAt this point in time, it seems unlikely that Xbox will ever greenlight a sequel to the acclaimed 3D platformer. While this is unfortunate, chestnut Fans can at least look forward to one upcoming game that could satisfy their desire for a spiritual successor to the franchise: Gori: Cuddly Carnage.

Gori: Cuddly Carnage is a 3D platform game with a bloody twist

Developed by independent Swedish developer Angry Demon Studio and published by Wired Productions, Gori: Cuddly Carnage is a hack-and-slash platform game with a cartoon look that offers a lot of violence and adult humor, just like chestnut. This upcoming title follows the adventures of a synthetic cat named Gori and her two companions, the sentient hoverboard FRANK and the foul-tempered AI CH1-P. The game takes place in a cyberpunk world where humanity has been wiped out by evil toys called “Ultra Pets,” and it’s up to this eclectic trio of characters to stop them from conquering the galaxy and killing Professor Y, one of the few people left alive on Earth.

Although the game’s protagonist is an anthropomorphic cat and the enemies it features are essentially stuffed animals, Gori: Cuddly Carnage is by no means kid-friendly. As the title suggests, this hack-and-slash game is not lacking in brutal violence and gore. As players slash their way through hordes of bloodthirsty, mutated “Ultra Pets,” they dismember them with all manner of weapons, including swords and explosives. In addition, the game features “razor-sharp” adult humor, foul language, hoverboard parkour segments, and a multi-genre soundtrack, according to the developers.

Gori: Cuddly Carnage could be just what Conker fans are looking for

Gori: Cuddly Carnage may not be a one-to-one replica of chestnut‘s Day of Evil Rage, as it doesn’t have exactly the same gameplay style and setting as the acclaimed Rare title, but as an adult-oriented 3D platformer with anthropomorphic animals, it’s probably what fans most remember from a chestnut Continuation for the foreseeable future. Fortunately, Gori: Cuddly Carnage is not too far away from release, as it is scheduled to release on August 29, 2024 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam, GoG, and Epic Games Store.
