Family remembers 22-year-old after fatal accident in South Laredo

LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) – Family and friends are mourning the loss of 22-year-old Arath Nicolas Gutierrez, who was killed in a car crash in south Laredo early Wednesday morning, August 7.

Gutierrez was driving his black Honda Civic on Cuatro Vientos Road when the car reportedly rolled over, killing him. Melissa Amici, Arath’s aunt, expressed the family’s grief: “It is an incredible shock and an incredibly senseless loss of a very young, beautiful, vibrant life.”

Amici recalled Gutierrez’s dreams and passions. “He loved fashion. He just wanted to be able to buy the latest fashion trends and the big tennis shoes. He wanted to make money, buy a house and provide for his family,” she said.

Arath’s uncle, Amando Mendez, spoke of his nephew’s dedication to his job at FedEx Ground: “When we talked last Sunday on my mother’s birthday, we had a good conversation. He mentioned FedEx and his colleagues and that he loves his job.”

Mendez also remembered Gutierrez’s kindness: “He had a bright aura and as he got older he was always kind to people. He loved his family, he loved his mother and his sister. Overall he had a big heart and was a very good person.”

Since his death, flowers have been laid at the crash site to remember him. Many have supported the family through a GoFundMe page and his colleagues at FedEx Ground have organized a fundraiser. Amici added: “To know that someone can impact so many people in just 22 years is truly wonderful. It’s nice to know that he was to us the way he was to everyone.”
