Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the District Attorney’s Office, New Bedford Police Department and Homicide Division are actively investigating a homicide that occurred yesterday in New Bedford.

In the early afternoon of August 24, 2024, New Bedford Police were called to 68 South Street. When police arrived, they discovered 23-year-old Omil Padilla-Corsino with life-threatening stab wounds. Mr. Padilla-Corsino was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Detectives from the Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, along with detectives from the New Bedford Police Department, have identified suspect Juan Padilla-Santana (01/22/82), of Puerto Rico, who is in custody for murder.

During their investigation, police learned that the suspect was a relative of the deceased and that the stabbing followed an argument between family members at 68 South Street. Mr. Padilla-Santana is expected to be arraigned in New Bedford District Court tomorrow morning.
