Family celebrates the life of Lacambria Toomer

DAWSON, Ga. (WALB) – On Saturday, Lacambria Toomer’s family held a celebration in her honor.

Lacambria has been missing since 2022. Family and friends gathered in Douglas.

It’s been two years since Melissa Thornton’s daughter went missing. While the state continues to investigate Lacambria’s disappearance, Melissa won’t give up until she gets answers. In the meantime, she wants to help families who are also missing a child.

“I hosted this event to keep hope alive. If another family experiences a similar situation, I will hopefully do as many podcasts as possible and do anything else I can to raise awareness about situations like this,” said Lacambria’s mother Melissa Thornton.

The celebration of life also included a motorcycle ride by the Street Phantoms, a local organization. Butterfly decorations symbolizing Lacambria were on display throughout the event. Every time Melissa sees a butterfly, she knows her daughter is with her.
