This upcoming sequel also seems to follow the STALKER 2 playbook

Polish developer The Farm 51 has just announced a sequel to its 2021 survival horror game Chernobyliteand the end result looks somewhere between Valheim And Fallout4.

After it was first announced on IGN yesterday, Chernobylite 2: Exclusion Zone was revealed for all to see after the Steam page went live today.

The listing on Steam describes the game as “a post-apocalyptic action RPG game that combines free exploration of a vast and highly realistic open world, challenging combat, unique crafting, team and base management with non-linear storytelling.”

As revealed in the game’s trailer, developer The Farm 51 plans to release the game for both PC and consoles. It is not yet known which consoles it will be released on, but it is safe to assume that they meant at least PlayStation and Xbox systems.

The developer is probably best known for his work on the rather brilliant, if somewhat silly, Painkiller Hell & Damnation and the decidedly less brilliant and unfortunately less silly free tactical online shooter Third World War.

The original Chernobylite was a really interesting, if somewhat bumpy, game that received mixed to positive reactions. That’s basically a nice way of saying it’s a certified 7/10 game.

But for me, a 7 out of 10 game is the perfect title for a sequel.

I want to see a game with cool, interesting ideas but lackluster execution get a sequel because it gives the developers a chance to focus on what worked well in the original and iron out the problems that didn’t work so well.

There’s no news on an exact release date at the moment, but they’ve hinted that it will be out sometime in 2025. Hopefully not too close to the other big game that’s due out next year, for their sake…
