St. Augustine, Florida. – The St. Johns County Republican Party urged Republican voters to double-check their voting guides before heading to the polls when early voting begins Saturday.

Fraudulent guides were sent to voters and the SJC Republican Party wanted to inform people to avoid any confusion.

The fake voting guides look similar to the real guide. However, the fake guide (pictured left) included the St. Johns County Republicans logo, a list of candidates the party did not support, and lacked a legal notice about who paid for the guide.

The party announced in June that it had voted to support candidates in eight races in the August 20 primary election.

SJC Republican Party Chairman Denver Cook called the fake guides the “most obvious case of voter fraud” he had “ever seen.”

Cook said law enforcement has been contacted about the matter and the fraudulent activity has also been reported to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

Cook also planned to take legal action on behalf of the SJC Republican Party.

“The Republican Party of Florida and the Republican Party of St. Johns County are the only organizations officially authorized to speak on behalf of our party in St. Johns County. We take this matter very seriously and are investigating. No Florida voter should be misled by anonymous, fake groups claiming to speak for the GOP,” Evan Power, chairman of the Republican Party of Florida, said in a statement.

Early voting begins on Saturday, August 10. Election Day is August 20.
