As the owner of a sports team and the wife of a Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, Brittany Mahomes is in the spotlight a lot. Her only brother, Devin Matthews, on the other hand, goes somewhat unnoticed.

Like his sister, he grew up in Texas with parents Diana Lindenberg and Scott Matthews. The mother of two and personal trainer said that her parents separated when she was very young.

“I don’t even remember them ever being together,” Brittany said on The @HoboDia Show in 2016. “I don’t know what it’s like to have parents who aren’t divorced. I mean, it’s been like that my whole life.”

Although their parents separated, the siblings remained close. While Brittany played soccer in college and began a career as a sports team owner at the Kansas City Current, Devin joined the military.

You grew up in Texas

Devin and his sister grew up in Whitehouse, a small town south of Tyler, Texas. In a 2020 interview, Brittany described her family as “sports-mad” and that she was the kid who played every sport she could.

The former football player also told E! News in 2024 that she wanted to raise her children with dogs to teach them responsibility and gentleness and kindness, pointing out that her family had dogs when she was younger.

“There were always dogs in my household growing up,” she said, “so I definitely want to do the same for my children.”

Her parents divorced when she was young

Diana and Scott divorced when Brittany and Devin were young. After the split, Diana stayed in the White House and remarried football coach Paul Massey. They stayed together until his death in 2018, and three years later she married her current partner Lance Lindenberg.

Scott remarried and moved to Dallas, but the distance did not stop him from being there for his children. Brittany told The @HoboDia Show that her father attended many of her football games at the University of Texas at Tyler and she wrote him a sweet Father’s Day message on Instagram in 2018.

“I am so grateful for everything you do for Devin and I,” Brittany wrote. “We always had what we needed and always had a great role model to look up to!”

He is a veteran

According to his LinkedIn profile, Devin joined the U.S. Navy in 2012. He spent the next six years working as a missile technician, where, according to his LinkedIn profile, he was “responsible for the assembly, maintenance, and repair of nuclear-capable ballistic missiles on submarines.” He left the Navy in February 2018.

Brittany honored her brother’s service in a 2015 Instagram post.

“Happy Veterans Day to both my grandfathers (one not pictured) and my brother!!,” she wrote. “I am so proud of all three of them and not a day goes by that I don’t wish I still had my grandpa and grandpa by my side!! I love them all so much and am glad they were and are a part of my life!”

He works as an engineer

Before joining the Navy, Devin worked at the steakhouse chain Texas Roadhouse and as a food clerk in his hometown of Whitehouse. After leaving the military, he enrolled at San Diego State University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.

Brittany shared photos on Instagram of herself and her mother visiting her brother in 2018 when he lived in San Diego.

According to his LinkedIn account, Devin graduated from San Diego State in 2022 and currently works for an auto body repair company in North Texas that specializes in post-collision repair and restoration.

He is an uncle

In recent years, Devin has added a new title to his resume: uncle. Brittany and her husband Patrick Mahomes have two children together. Their daughter Sterling Skye was born on February 20, 2021, and their son Patrick “Bronze” Lavon Mahomes III was born on November 28, 2022. The couple is currently expecting their third child and announced the happy news on Instagram on Friday, July 12.

Although Devin doesn’t appear to have a public profile on Instagram, his mother often shares photos of family gatherings.

In February 2024, Diana released a collection of photos showing Devin at his niece’s third birthday party.

He is very close to his mother

Devin has appeared on Diana’s Instagram feed a few times. They go on mother-son trips to Florida, work out together, and, of course, cheer on Brittany’s husband at football games.
