Epic Universe, the “Disney Killer” theme park is coming

Universal Orlando Resort’s highly anticipated Epic Universe theme park is set to open in 2025 and will be a major expansion of the resort. As the third theme park and fourth overall at Universal Orlando Resort, Epic Universe will be the centerpiece of a larger, 750-acre property in Orlando, Florida. Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure, including Volcano Bay, will soon have another theme park as a Universal destination, a Universal park unlike any other.

The park will feature five different themed lands, each offering unique, immersive experiences. The themed lands include Celestial Park, Dark Universe, How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, SUPER NINTENDO WORLD and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic. These lands will be connected by a hub-and-spoke layout, with Celestial Park as the central hub.

Each themed land will have its own entrance, creating a unified yet diverse visitor experience. In preparation for the expected influx of guests with the opening of Epic Universe, Orlando International Airport is building a new terminal to increase its capacity. In addition, a major road connecting Epic Universe to the rest of Universal Orlando Resort will be upgraded with a new median dedicated to the resort’s electric buses to efficiently transport visitors between the parks.

Universal brings immersive new technologies

Universal Orlando Resort’s upcoming Epic Universe theme park is set to redefine the guest experience using cutting-edge technologies such as omnidirectional rides, motion simulations and advanced special effects. As Orlando Inno reported, Jeff Polk, executive vice president and general manager of Epic Universe, gave a glimpse of the park’s groundbreaking attractions during a luncheon hosted by the International Drive Resort Area Chamber of Commerce in August.

One of the park’s standout attractions is located at the Ministry of Magic, where Harry Potter and the Battle of the Ministry promises to be one of Universal’s most immersive rides. This attraction will combine cutting-edge technologies such as trackless ride systems, high-definition projections, smoke effects and augmented reality (AR).

The attraction’s dynamic vehicles can rotate 360 degrees, giving guests the feeling of flying through the Wizarding World of Harry Potter as they witness the trial of Dolores Umbridge. Located in SUPER NINTENDO WORLD’s Donkey Kong Country, Mine-Cart Madness offers a family-friendly roller coaster experience.

Featuring innovative roller coaster technology, this attraction simulates a thrilling ride in rickety mine carts with dynamic track elements that create the sensation of jumping over chasms and splashing down waterfalls. The park’s How to Train Your Dragon themed area will also include Hiccup’s Wing Gliders, a roller coaster that replicates the feeling of flying on the back of a dragon. Universal Creative is working hard to ensure this Universal destination, along with the upcoming expansion The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, Dark Universe and more, has precise geolocation permissions and a global privacy control signal to ensure the optimal guest experience.

According to Polk, the attraction will use motion-based technology to give guests the feeling of soaring through the skies alongside their favorite characters. Finally, Dark Universe Land offers a scary adventure as guests pass through an electrified portal into the eerie town of Darkmoor. There will also be a Darkmoor Monster Makeup Experience, a Frankenstein Experiment, Frankenstein Manor, Universal Pictures Monsters, monster identifiers, roller coasters and more.

This land will be filled with special effects that will immerse visitors in a world where electricity pulses through the buildings surrounding them. Epic Universe, Universal Orlando Resort’s fourth theme park, is set to open in 2025 and will bring these innovative experiences to life and set a new standard for entertainment. From Universal CityWalk to this new Universal Park, no matter your choice of Universal destination, Universal Creative will ensure your experience is optimal, no matter where your choice lands.
