IOWA CITY, Iowa — PhD student at the University of Iowa Macy Enneking has been named to the 2024 Mac Hermann Trophy watch list, the Missouri Athletic Club announced this week. The trophy is the nation’s highest award for the college soccer player of the year.

Enneking is the first Hawkeye to receive the preseason honor. The Hilliard, Ohio native is one of five goalies on the watch list, marking her as one of the best players in the country at her position this season.

“Macy has invested a lot of time and energy into her craft and it makes me incredibly proud to see that others have recognized what we have always known in the Hawkeye program,” said head coach Dave DiIanni“She is a special person, a great student and a winner on the court. This is just the beginning of her journey.”

The watch list was compiled by members of the Division I Women’s All-America Council from a list of returning All-Americans and First Team All-Region players from 2023.

Enneking was previously named the 2024 United Soccer Coaches’ Player to Watch, becoming the first Hawkeye to receive that national honor ahead of the season. Enneking was also named a Big Ten Player to Watch this season.

Enneking set an individual program record for goaltender shutouts last year (12.5) and helped the Hawkeyes have one of the best statistical defenses in program history. Iowa posted 13 total shutouts and a 0.76 goals-against average, both of which were school records.

Last season, Enneking was named a Big Ten Player to Watch in the preseason before finishing the season with all-region honors and a nomination to the All-Big Ten Tournament team. As a freshman in 2020, Enneking was the Big Ten Tournament Defensive MVP and was a unanimous All-Big Ten Freshman.

Enneking started goaltending at each of Iowa’s two Big Ten Tournament championships in program history and also won the program’s two NCAA Tournament championships.

A total of 15 players will be named 2024 Hermann Trophy semifinalists on December 4 following the completion of NCAA Division I All-American voting. From this list, head coaches will cast their votes and three players will be named finalists. The 2024 award winner will be announced on January 3, 2025, at a ceremony at the historic Missouri Athletic Club in downtown St. Louis, Missouri.
