Elon Musk believes good products will drive the transition to electric vehicles, not concerns about climate change – Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA)

Tesla Inc. TSL Managing Director Elon Musk on Monday called for building better products to convince people to switch to greener mobility options like electric vehicles rather than making them feel guilty about climate change.

What happened: “Exactly! Convince people to switch by making better products,” Musk wrote in response to Tesla enthusiasts Omar Qaziwho goes by the username Whole Mars Catalog.

“…we will get people to switch by making a Tesla the best car they’ve ever owned. Not by making them feel eco-guilty,” Qazi wrote in his post.

The billionaire entrepreneur’s statement follows his Spaces interview with Republican presidential candidate Donald TrumpMusk said during the interview that his views on climate change are “moderate” and that he does not believe in demonizing or over-regulating oil and gas because people would starve without them.

Musk later stated that he does indeed believe in global warming. However, advances in sustainable energy production and use could solve the global warming problem in time, Musk said. He suggested there was no rush and dismissed the notion that there was an immediate need to address climate change.

“And eventually we’re going to run out of oil and gas. So why take this CO2 experiment to extreme levels when we already have a problem with sustainable energy?” Musk wrote.

Trump, on the other hand, dismissed the risks of climate change out of hand, claiming that nuclear warming posed a more immediate and greater risk.

“The biggest threat is not global warming, where sea levels will rise an eighth of an inch in the next 400 years,” Trump told Musk. “You’re going to have more oceanfront property, right?”

Why it is important: This is not the first time Musk has expressed similar views on climate change despite his position as head of an electric vehicle company. In June, Musk said the risk of climate change was “overstated in the short term” but “probably accurate in the long term.”

However, Musk’s Tesla is the world’s largest seller of battery-powered electric vehicles, selling 443,956 electric vehicles in the second quarter alone.
