Elections in Jammu and Kashmir: BJP announces first list of 44 candidates

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced its first list of 44 candidates for the parliamentary elections in Jammu and Kashmir.

Candidates include 15, 10 and 19 for the first, second and third phases.

Some of the prominent names include Er. Syed Showkat Gayoor Andrabi from Pampore, Mohd. Rafiq Wani from Anantnag West and Devender Singh Rana from Nagrota.

On Monday, ET reported that the saffron party, which will not form an alliance, has finalised its 50 candidates and is likely to field many Muslim leaders.

Sources told ET that the BJP is likely to contest 60-70 seats and may support independents in additional seats.

In Jammu and Kashmir, elections will be held for the first time since the abrogation of Article 370 in three phases on September 18, 25 and October 1. The counting of votes is scheduled for October 4.
