On Saturday, as part of International Overdose Awareness Day, a local organization will host a community event to raise awareness of the issue.

The El Paso Harm Reduction Alliance event will be held from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and will include educational workshops on overdose prevention and a vigil to honor those who have died from an overdose.

Organizers said attendees can expect:

  • Naloxone training: Free naloxone kits are distributed, along with training on how to use this life-saving medication.
  • Memorial Ceremony: A candlelight vigil will be held to remember those who have lost their lives to an overdose.
  • Resources: Local organizations provide support services and resources for individuals and families affected by substance use disorders.
  • Die-In: Participants simulate the tragic reality of overdose deaths to raise awareness and highlight the importance of prevention and action.

Former candidate for city council, Veronica Carbajal, will be the guest speaker.

The event will take place at Memorial Park in downtown El Paso (1707 N. Copia Street) and is free and open to the public.
