Effingham County School District hosts grand opening of Honey Ridge Agricenter

EFFINGHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) – The Effingham County School District held a grand opening and ribbon cutting for its Honey Ridge Area on Friday.

From humble beginnings…

“When we started 35 years ago, we showed cattle on a baseball field and had to build a temporary arena,” said Billy Hughes, the state’s education program director.

On to a new era of agricultural success…

“Seeing this come to fruition and what is available here now is just a great experience.”

There was no shortage of recognition for agriculture during Friday’s ceremony at the Effingham County School District’s Honey Ridge Agricenter.

State, county and community leaders, as well as agricultural educators and Future Farmers of America (FFA) students gathered to celebrate the opening of the new 35,000-square-foot arena.

“Knowing that I’m going to be one of the first people to perform in this arena is just amazing. To be one of the first people to perform and one of the first people, well, my first year to perform, makes me so happy,” said Chloe Teixeira, SEHS FFA member.

Meredith Arrington, ECCA agriculture teacher and FFA advisor, said, “We have been patient, and patience pays off in the long run. And now we have this state-of-the-art facility for our students and our community. And we look forward to attracting many people from across the state and throughout the Southeast when we host our livestock shows and other events here.”
