TYRONE — After trailing 20-13 in the third quarter, the Clearfield Bisons scored 33 unanswered points to hand Tyrone a 46-20 Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference loss last night at Gray-Veterans Memorial Field. Clearfield took the field in the second half and dominated the line of scrimmage. The Bisons totaled 209 of their 344 rushing yards in the second and third quarters.

Senior Brady Collins led Clearfield’s running attack with 234 yards.

Play of the game: After a pick-6 by Tyrone’s Klayton Moore put the Golden Eagles ahead 20-13 a minute into the second half, Collins took a swing pass from Xavier Curry and sprinted 68 yards down the sideline for a touchdown that made the game a 1-point game. On the second play after Tyrone got the ball back, Collins then intercepted Ashton Walk and carried it back 39 yards to put the Bisons ahead 25-20, and they would never trail again.

Player of the game: Collins scored six points and averaged 11.1 yards per carry. In addition to his interception, he also recorded a sack on defense.

Unsung heroes: In his first start on the varsity team, Curry completed 4 of 9 passes for 117 yards, ran for a 10-yard touchdown in the second quarter and intercepted a pass from Walk in the fourth quarter.

Key stats: Clearfield stopped 7 of Tyrone’s 15 running plays behind the line of scrimmage and interrupted 14 runs of 10 yards or more when they had the football. In the game, the Bisons averaged 7.1 yards per carry.

Clearfield coach Myles Caragein: “He’s a great athlete, he has a great attitude and he’s a fighter. He wants to win and the team is behind him. He’s a great leader. When Brady gets going, it elevates the team. He did a great job tonight.”

Tyrone coach John Franco: “The turning point was we didn’t score when we got the ball back in the red zone,” said Franco, whose team took the ball inside Clearfield’s 30-yard line for a 20-13 lead. “(Collins) is an all-state caliber player. He played a fantastic game on both sides of the ball. He’s a first-team all-state player in my book. There’s no doubt about that.”

Notable: The Golden Eagles lost the ball four times, including fumbles on two of their first three possessions … the Bisons had three fumbles but recovered the ball each time … Walk completed 11 of 23 passes for 204 yards … Trent Adams caught three passes for 92 yards, including an 80-yard touchdown in the second quarter … Hoover scored the Eagles’ other touchdown on a 57-yard run.

Records: Clearfield 1-0, Tyrone 0-1.

Next week: The Bisons host Forest Hills while Tyrone travels to Greater Johnstown.
