Dwayne Johnson is happy to be reunited with Emily Blunt for “The Smashing Machine”

Dwayne Johnson is excited to possibly work with Emily Blunt again on “The Smashing Machine.”

The action film is gearing up to star MMA and UFC champion Mark Kerr in Benny Safdie’s solo directorial debut, while his Jungle Cruise co-star is in talks to play Kerr’s wife Dawn Staples.

Speaking to Variety on the Oscars red carpet, Johnson said he couldn’t wait to work with Blunt again.

“It’s very different from what we did with Jungle Cruise, but I have to tell you, there’s no better partner in our industry than Emily that I’d love to have on board to pull this thing off. This has been a long time coming, man,” Johnson gushed. “It’s with A24 and that’s what we’re shooting next. I can’t wait.”

He described the British star as “one of my best friends and one of the greatest actresses of all time.”

In 2021’s “Jungle Cruise,” a film adaptation of the Disney attraction of the same name, Johnson played a steamship captain who takes Blunt’s scientists on a journey to find the Tree of Life.

Although a sequel was announced shortly after the release, the star of “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” did not provide an update on the development.

“Possibly. I’d like to do it at some point. Maybe, we’ll see,” he teased of the sequel.

Johnson is currently working with Disney on a live-action adaptation of his animated hit “Moana.”
