LAUSANNE >> Two-time Olympic champion Armand Duplantis added another victory to his illustrious career: he won the city’s pole vault competition today, opening the Lausanne Diamond League meeting.

The 24-year-old cleared a meeting record of 6.15 metres on the Place de la Navigation, two weeks after winning his second consecutive Olympic title with a stunning world record jump of 6.25 metres in Paris.

The Swede needed just four jumps to secure today’s victory with a height of 6.0 and then had the bar raised to a meeting record of 6.15, which he cleared on his third attempt.

“It’s always nerve-wracking when you have a great performance like I did at the Olympics,” Duplantis told reporters. “I went out on the track today and I really enjoyed it.”

US Olympic silver medalist Sam Kendricks jumped 5.92 seconds to take second place. Norway’s Sondre Guttormsen, Australia’s Kurtis Marschall and the Philippines’ EJ Obiena tied for third place with 5.82 seconds.

Duplantis thrilled the crowd at the Stade de France at the Paris Olympic Games when he broke the world record for the ninth time.

The rest of the Lausanne Diamond League program will take place on Thursday at the Stade Olympique de la Pontaise.
