Britney Spears is reportedly the latest star to document her life in a biopic.
Accordingly Diversity, Universal Pictures secured the rights to the pop princess’s bestselling memoirs The woman in me. The book describes Spears’ rise to fame, her relationship with child star Justin Timberlake – during which she became pregnant and had an abortion – and her 13 years of life under a highly restrictive conservatorship.
The woman in me quickly became a bestseller. The day after its release in October, Spears declared that the book had become “the best-selling celebrity memoir of all time” on its first day on shelves.
Evil Director Jon M. Chu and Marc Platt are reportedly leading development on the film. Spears also told X earlier this month that she has been working with Platt on a “secret project.” “I’m excited to share with my fans that I have been working with #MarcPlatt on a secret project. He has always made my favorite movies… stay tuned,” she wrote.
Ahead of the potential biopic, we’ve compiled a list of our dream cast to portray the key people in Spears’ life, from the pop princess herself to her family and ex-partners, industry colleagues, reporters and more. See below.
-
Britney Spears played by Sydney Sweeney
She’s so lucky! She’s a star! Aside from their obvious physical resemblance, Sweeney knows that the way someone is portrayed in the media can be completely different from the person they actually are. She would be the perfect candidate to portray Britney from the perspective of empathy and kindness, because that’s all the pop star requires.
-
Jamie Lynn Spears played by Millie Bobby Brown
Although Millie Bobby Brown has expressed that playing Britney in a biopic would be her dream, she also has the acting talent to take on Jamie Lynn and add depth to the sisters’ tumultuous relationship.
-
Lynne Spears played by Sandra Bullock
Like Brown, Bullock is a pro actor. The star can effortlessly convey the nuances of Spears’ relationship with her mother – and will likely win an Oscar for it.
-
Jamie Spears played by Alec Baldwin
While this is an unfortunate casting for any actor, there is no denying the resemblance between Baldwin and Spears’ estranged father.
-
Justin Timberlake played by Gavin Casalegno
The star of “The Summer I Turned Pretty” already has JT’s signature curls. The difficult experiences with Timberlake that Spears describes in her book will transform Casalegno from an aspiring actor to a full-fledged movie star.
-
Christina Aguilera played by Dove Cameron
Dove Cameron is no newcomer to the Disney machine herself and knows how hard it is to be compared to other pop stars. Her musical talent combined with her acting talent make her the perfect candidate for the role of Xtina.
-
Max Martin played by Bradley Cooper
Let Bradley Cooper grow his hair out, and he bears a striking resemblance to the mega-producer who helped Britney become the pop icon she is with his work on “…Baby One More Time.”
-
Madonna played by Christina Aguilera
OK, we know Aguilera is a character in the film. But instead of playing herself, it would be interesting to see Xtina form a different relationship with Spears by portraying her mentor and collaborator, Madonna. She certainly has the musical talent for it!
-
Elton John played by Michael Caine
Michael Caine is great at taking on uplifting roles, and it would be heartwarming to see him take on the role of Elton John, who collaborated with Britney on her first post-conservatorship single, “Hold Me Closer.”
-
Diane Sawyer played by Katherine Heigl
Diane Sawyer’s infamous interview with Britney Spears left the pop star in tears at the media attention. Katherine Heigl never shies away from a difficult role and will perfectly capture the journalist’s conversation with Spears.
-
Oprah Winfrey played by Queen Latifah
“I appreciated Oprah telling me on her show that my sexuality was nobody’s business,” Spears wrote in her book. “And as for virginity, ‘You don’t need a worldwide announcement if you change your mind.'”
Queen Latifah is a passionate advocate for women’s rights in the entertainment industry, making her the perfect choice for Oprah’s empowering interview with Spears.
-
Paris Hilton played by Elle Fanning
For Britney’s supportive friend Paris Hilton, Elle Fanning would be a great choice for the best friend role. Plus, she would look incredible in Hilton’s Y2K style.
-
Sam Asghari played by Shervin Alenabi
Her fellow Iranian star Shervin Alenabi looks very similar to Spears’ ex-husband and the popular actor will have no trouble capturing the relationship between Asghari and Spears.
-
Colin Farrell played by Jacob Elordi
Spears had a brief affair with Farrell in the early 2000s, which would be a great opportunity to reunite her “Euphoria” co-stars Sweeney and Elordi on the big screen.
-
Ginuwine as himself
Let’s face it, nobody can play Ginuwine better than Ginuwine himself. Watching him recreate the moment from Spears’ book where Justin Timberlake looks at the “Pony” singer and says, “‘Oh yeah, shit, shit. Ginuwine, what’s up, buddy?'” is Oscar-worthy in and of itself.
