Dogs available for adoption from Home for Good Dog Rescue in Berkeley Heights

Meet NorthJersey.com’s adoptable pets of the week of August 23rd!

Each week, NorthJersey.com would like to feature two animals from local shelters and rescues that are available for adoption.

If you care for, work for, or volunteer at a North Jersey animal shelter or rescue and know of animals in need of a loving forever home, please send a photo, description, and adoption information to [email protected] to have your adoption pets featured in the next issue.

This week we feature Elmer and Nacho from Home for Good Dog Rescue, a foster-based dog rescue organization based in Berkeley Heights.

Elmer

Elmer is a chocolate Labrador Retriever mix who weighs over 60 pounds when fully grown and is estimated to be 5 years old. He was rescued from a shelter in Swainsboro, Georgia, where he was scheduled to be euthanized due to space constraints.

Now, over 175 days later, Elmer is still looking for his forever home and has not received a single application.

Elmer is a happy and friendly guy who enjoys playing fetch, going for walks, and spending time with his foster family. Although he loves toys, playtime, and a good adventure, he is also just as content curled up on the couch with his foster family to watch a movie or read some emails.

Elmer is completely house trained and used to his crate. He sleeps soundly in his dog bed all night long and is always happy to start a new day with lots of cuddles and affection.

He feels most comfortable in a quieter environment without small children, other dogs or cats. There he can relax, go for long walks, play fetch to his heart’s content and enjoy being the center of attention.

Elmer is neutered, has all age-appropriate vaccinations and a microchip.

Nacho

Nacho is a pug mix who weighs about 14.5 pounds and is estimated to be 3 years old. He was rescued from a hoarding situation in South Carolina where he and over 20 other pug mixes lived in a filthy, abusive home with their own feces and urine without available food or water.

Together, Nacho and his friends have overcome so much and are learning the true meaning of love and happiness. Since their rescue, they have received the medical care and extra affection they so desperately needed. Now, many of them are ready to find their forever homes.

Although he can be a little shy at first, Nacho is learning to really open up to people and feels safest around other dogs. He would love to have a buddy at home to play and spend time with.

Nacho has worked hard on his leash training and is making progress every day. He would love quiet evening walks with you while he learns to enjoy the finer things in life.

He loves his human and animal friends with all his heart and gets on well with cats and children who give him his space while he settles in. He is also neutered, has all age-appropriate vaccinations and is microchipped.

Nacho is ready to find a loving home that will provide him with the care and happiness he deserves.
