The Dodgers have nominated former Cubs outfielder Jason Heyward for a new position, the team announced Thursday.

Heyward, 35, played the final two seasons of his major league career with the Dodgers. He was solid in 2023, hitting .269 with an OPS of .813. He also added 15 home runs and 40 RBIs to his stats from that season.

In 2024, however, Heyward has failed to live up to expectations. This season, he has played in just 63 games, posting a .208 batting average with 36 strikeouts and 17 walks, as well as hitting six home runs and 28 RBIs.

Before joining the Dodgers, Heyward played for the Cubs for the past seven years. With the Cubs, he helped the team end its losing streak and brought the World Series trophy to Chicago in 2016. He also won two Gold Gloves in the outfield during his time on the North Side.

In 2015, the Cubs signed Heyward to a monstrous eight-year contract worth $184 million. Unfortunately, his best form waned in the final seasons of his career on the North Side, forcing the Cubs to release him after the 2022 season.

Before the Cubs, Heyward played one season with the Cardinals and the first five seasons of his career with the Braves.
