The Los Angeles Dodgers have placed Tyler Glasnow on the injured list for 15 days due to right elbow tendinitis. This is the second time this season that Glasnow has been placed on the injured list. The first time was for a mild back issue.
The Dodgers have struggled to keep their pitchers healthy this season, but that’s a pretty common problem throughout MLB. Without Glasnow, the team decided to bring back Justin Wrobleski to start Friday, and Bobby Miller will get the ball on Saturday.
These were Glasnow’s originally planned launch days after his Friday launch date was pushed back by one day.
The Dodgers did not announce the roster change until minutes before the first pitch at Busch Stadium because they were waiting for the results of Glasnow’s tests.
After receiving the results, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Glasnow wanted to keep throwing despite his elbow tendonitis and that the team hopes he will only miss the minimum amount of time. Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports:
Dave Roberts said the Dodgers would wait for Tyler Glasnow’s scans to come back. They showed the tendinitis. Glasnow lobbied to start anyway, but Roberts said he would have been “on fire” if he had seen that.
They hope he can return after 15 days on the injured list.

Glasnow has been the star of the Dodger rotation this season, posting a 3.49 ERA, 2.63 xERA and 2.91 FIP with a 0.95 WHIP in 134 innings, which is his career high by 14 innings after throwing 120 last year. Additionally, Glasnow has struck out 32.2% of the hitters he has faced this season and has only been struck out by walks.
The Dodgers are already without Yoshinobu Yamamoto at the top of their rotation and recently lost River Ryan for the rest of the season as he had to undergo Tommy John surgery.
Currently, the Dodgers’ rotation consists of Jack Flaherty, Clayton Kershaw, Walker Buehler and Gavin Stone. Buehler and Miller have both struggled this season, while Stone has gone through a bit of a rough patch, which has further exacerbated the Dodgers’ pitching problems.
If Glasnow is out more often than the Dodgers hope, they could find themselves in a dangerous situation.
Dodgers options without Tyler Glasnow
Besides Wrobleski and Miller, the Dodgers have few candidates to replace Glasnow. One of them is Landon Knack, but he is not allowed to return for 15 days since his last option on August 14, unless he is replacing an injured player.
Aside from those three, the Dodgers don’t have a lot of depth on their 40-man roster, and any other moves would require further roster shakeups.
