KINGSFORD, Michigan (WLUC) – School is back in session in Upper Michigan.

Schools across the UP are starting up again, and at some schools in Dickinson County, students aren’t the only ones adjusting to a new environment.

The new superintendent and principal of the North Dickinson School District, David Florenski, took office on Monday. Florenski served in an interim capacity as superintendent and principal of the North Central School District in Menominee for the past year.

He says North Dickinson welcomed him to the school.

“What I really appreciate is how welcoming and welcoming the students have been to me, calling me ‘Mr. Flo,'” Florenski said. “And I have great staff here who, you know, always come by and say hello and stuff.”

Nordic’s current superintendent will continue to work with the school, but in a different way. Angel Inglese began her work as general education director for the Dickinson-Iron Intermediate School District on August 1.

She says in this position she will work with local schools in Dickinson and Iron counties.

“We have a K-12 literacy consultant who works in the general education department,” Inglese said. “We can go to all the districts and help with different areas of expertise.”

Inglese says her experience as a principal and superintendent will help her in her new role.

“As a principal, I’ve learned a lot of different aspects,” Inglese said. “This job can help me in this position because I get to help teachers, administrators, principals and support staff.”

Inglese will also oversee a new position as early mathematics specialist in the school district.
