Devin Vassell returns to his high school alma mater to host a youth basketball camp

San Antonio-based multimedia journalist “Just Jazz” on X (formerly Twitter) caught up with Spurs swingman Devin Vassell as he hosted his third annual basketball camp at Peachtree Ridge High School in Suwanee, Georgia.

Vassell spoke about what inspired him to start this camp:

“My biggest thing is giving back to the youth, giving back to the community. This is high school, this is where I came from, this is where I was raised, this is where I became the man I am today…making it to the NBA is attainable, achieving your goal is attainable. I want to be living proof…no matter what they say, you can do whatever you want.”

Vassell has plenty of reasons to defend the idea that no one can crush your dreams. After originally attending Collins Hill High School and failing to make their basketball team, he transferred to Peachtree Ridge, where he and the Lions decimated the same Collins Hill team that had rejected him.

“That’s a lot of sacrifices. I didn’t go to homecoming parties, I didn’t do much over the summer, I didn’t go on vacation. I missed out on a lot of things – parties, video games – you have to make sacrifices to have the things you want… To anyone who has a goal or a dream, you have to make sacrifices.”

Vassell is looking forward to the next season and is ready to go.

Go, spurs, go!
