Devin Singletary Fantasy Preview

While it may feel like Devin Singletary has been in the NFL forever, it certainly has to me; he turns 27 this September. Drafted in the 3rd round of the 2019 draft by the Buffalo Bills after posting three consecutive 1,000+ rushing yards seasons at Florida Atlantic University, Devin Singletary has had a fairly successful NFL career so far. In his rookie season, which seems like an eternity ago, he beat out LeSean McCoy, Frank Gore, and TJ Yeldon for a prominent role in the Bills’ backfield. He then went on to post three consecutive 1,000+ rushing and receiving yards seasons. Prior to last year, Singletary signed a one-year deal with Houston, where he posted a career-high 898 rushing yards. Last offseason, he signed a three-year, $16.5 million contract with the New York Giants to hopefully become their starting quarterback now that Saquon Barkley has left town.

Current betting odds

Singletary has +50,000 odds to win Offensive Player of the Year. If you bet $100, you’ll win $50,000 if that happens. Spoiler alert: That won’t happen. However, if you bet that the Giants’ first-round pick Malik Nabers will lead all rookies in receiving yards, that pays 4:1. That could easily happen. The Giants will have to play from behind and throw the ball a lot this season. NFL betting sites offer all kinds of odds and special bets. Some are really good this time of year.

Current ADP

When you think about it, Devin Singletary is currently being considered the 29th starting RB in the NFL. I know that’s not entirely true, as David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs both go ahead of him, but I wouldn’t say Singletary is one of the worst starting RBs in the NFL right now. He’s not in the best situation, but he’s back with a coach he’s had success under before, as both Brian Daboll and Singletary were with the Bills a few years ago. I don’t expect a huge production from Singletary, nor do I have particular eyes on him in the late 7th round/early 8th round, but he’s valuable at some point. A slide to the 9th or 10th round and he would add solid depth to my RB stable.

Fantasy insights and values

Singletary is entering a situation that looks pretty difficult on paper. Saquon Barkley, a former No. 2 pick, has left the Giants for division rival Philadelphia. I can’t imagine Giants fans being happy with this development. Plus, this was one of the worst offensive lines in football in 2023. Now a new line coach in Carmen Bricillo and some new additions at the guard position could improve this line, but it’s still one of the worst units in football.

However, Singletary has proven to be consistent everywhere he’s been (I’m including college). He just keeps going. His NFL career averages per season are 810 rushing yards, 4 rushing TDs, 35 receptions, 233 receiving yards, and 0.8 receiving TDs, and that’s against teams where passing was the priority. While that might still be the case in New York, in standard scoring terms that equates to about 133 fantasy points on the season. That’s attainable for Devin Singletary. While he won’t be scoring goals with his fantasy production, you can take higher risks with his ADP. Singletary could prove useful during off weeks or against teams that are particularly bad at stopping run plays. Plus, he gives you depth at a position that doesn’t have much to offer in fantasy.

Dynasty Value

Well, hopefully you already have Singletary on your teams, but even if you did, he probably wasn’t the secret weapon that makes you competitive every year. This RB has a 3-year deal with New York that could make him the RB1 here for a few years, but that’s probably about it. In 3 years, Devin Singletary will be 30, and a drop-off is probably to be expected. If you’re just starting your dynasty leagues, I’d think Singletary’s ADP should be even lower than the 83 he’s being redrafted at.

Bold prediction

It’s probably not that bold, but Devin Singletary will be the clear RB1 for the Giants. He will surpass his 4 TD average and reach the 850 rushing yards mark.
