Devin Haney demands a “fair” rematch with Ryan Garcia after the weigh-in fiasco

Devin Haney has called for a “fair” rematch against Ryan Garcia after suffering a point loss to his fellow American, who missed his weight target by three pounds last week.

Garcia knocked Haney down three times before securing a majority decision victory on Saturday (April 20) in Brooklyn, handing Haney his first loss as a pro but falling short of the WBC super lightweight title.

Garcia, 25, was denied the belt due to a failed weigh-in, and Haney, also 25, said King Ryan’s excess weight helped his performance.

“First of all I want to say… Alhamdulillah,” Haney wrote on Instagram on Wednesday (April 24). “Allah is the perfect planner and I trust his plan no matter what. I may not have come out well enough but that’s boxing and anyone who knows me knows I’m a true competitor and have always wanted to test my skills against the best fighters in the world.”

“Despite the circumstances, Ryan was victorious that night and that’s fine. I think weight played a role in that but only Allah knows. I would like to do it again and give the fans a FAIR fight at an agreed weight.

“With that said, I am currently enjoying time with my family and friends and planning my Ramadan days. Thank you to all my supporters and everyone who made this event possible. When I finish planning my Ramadan days, I will tell you what’s next!

“I am grateful to everyone who has reached out, I am overwhelmed with love! Inshallah I will come back better than ever.”

Since his victory over Haney, Garcia has challenged a variety of potential opponents, including Conor Benn, Errol Spence Jr., UFC champion Sean O’Malley and Gervonta Davis.

Last April, Davis stopped Garcia with a body shot, becoming the first fighter to defeat King Ryan.
