Devin Booker receives praise from Steve Kerr after US team’s gold medal

The US national team secured a gold medal against France in Paris on Saturday, thanks in large part to a dominant fourth quarter from Steph Curry, who was back to his old self after making three three-pointers in the closing minutes to decide the game and silence the home crowd.

Curry led the USA with 24 points from eight three-pointers, and his veteran colleagues LeBron James and Kevin Durant also each played an excellent game – giving the older superstars of the US team an incredible final spurt.

After the game, much of the talk understandably revolved around Curry’s late-game heroics or the play of James and Durant, but at the end of his postgame press conference, head coach Steve Kerr specifically credited former Kentucky guard Devin Booker for his play on Sunday and throughout the Olympics.

“Devin Booker is an incredible basketball player,” Kerr said, according to Ben Golliver of the Washington Post. “Nobody asked about him. He was our secret MVP. I just wanted to say that.”

Booker finished the game with 15 points, six rebounds and three assists in 28 minutes, making 6 of 9 field goals.

In his 28 minutes, he was only behind Curry, James and Durant – a clear sign that the 27-year-old will be a key player for the US team in the future.

The U.S. team will attempt to defend its gold medal in Los Angeles in 2028. While Curry, Durant and LeBron will likely retire at that point, Booker, Anthony Edwards, Jayson Tatum, Bam Adebayo and others are expected to step in and ensure USA Basketball continues to thrive for years to come.
