Devin Booker calls Steph Curry ‘the best shooter of all time’ after the Warriors star led the US team to the gold medal at the Olympics

Devin Booker calls Steph Curry ‘the best shooter of all time’ after the Warriors star led the US team to the gold medal at the Olympics

After making eight 3-pointers in the United States’ 98-87 victory over France on Saturday, Stephen Curry cemented his reputation as one of the greatest basketball players in history and won his first Olympic gold medal. “He’s the best shooter of all time,” Devin Booker told reporters after Curry’s legendary performance.

Curry’s reputation as the greatest shooter of all time only grew in what may be his first and last Olympics. The Americans needed all of his three-pointers to win the gold medal game and complete their comeback against Serbia in the semifinals.

Even more astonishing is the fact that the Warriors legend had only made five three-point shots before his 36-point performance against Serbia, which narrowly missed Carmelo Anthony’s Olympic record for most points scored in a game with 36 points.

Curry totaled 24 points on eight three-pointers after scoring 36 points in the win over Serbia. Four of those threes that clinched the gold for the Americans were made in a row. For any other player, the final three shots would have been like a one-legged throw over a double team of Nicolas Batum and Evan Fournier – a shot that would make any coach slam their clipboard in frustration.

The four-time NBA champion and two-time MVP is the all-time player with the most three-pointers made (8,805) and three-pointers made (3,747), with a three-point shooting percentage of 42.6 percent. He has five seasons with 300 or more three-pointers, making him the only player in NBA history to make more than 400 three-pointers in a season (402 in 2015-16). Only James Harden and Klay Thompson have made more than 300 three-pointers in a single season in NBA history.

LeBron James, the Warriors icon’s legendary rival and teammate, won the Olympics Most Valuable Player award, while the Americans took home the gold medal thanks to his outstanding shooting. James was just four rebounds away from repeating his triple-double against France, having already recorded one against Serbia. James finished the gold medal game with 14 points, 6 rebounds and 10 assists. He averaged 14.2 points, 6.8 rebounds and 8.5 assists on 66% shooting during the games.

It’s only fitting that James and Curry led Team USA to a gold medal in what may be the last Olympic Games after nearly a decade of bitter rivalry in the NBA.
