The Detroit Tigers will play against the New York Yankees in the Little League World Series game on Sunday night, an excellent opportunity for all players involved.
With Little League World Series players and fans in attendance, the Tigers and Yankees can share their love of baseball with kids who dream of one day playing in the big leagues.
Before the game, Detroit players hung out at the games, signing autographs and hanging out with the players. In typical Little League World Series fashion, the team’s players decided to slide down the hill.
Sliding down is a staple of the Little League World Series as it’s part of the fan experience. Will Vest joined in on the fun, sliding down the hill in his jersey for Sunday night’s game.
However, Vest will have a large stain on his jersey near his right shoulder as it looks like he fell off his slide. Jon Morosi of MLB Network caught him signing autographs and Vest talked about the experience.
“I wish I could say it was a graceful slide, but it wasn’t. Yes, I didn’t do it well. I was going for speed and I should have been safe. I’m OK, I’m good to go, but I’m going to have a weird stain of dirt on my jersey tonight.”
Vest, who seems to be having the time of his life, would be fun to watch coming in from the bullpen. He hasn’t pitched in four days, so the odds are high.
Many Tigers players seem to enjoy their time at the Little League World Series. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity for everyone involved, as Major League Baseball only selects two teams to play.
Detroit has been the center of attention since their arrival on Sunday morning. Little League World Series participants greeted them at the airport, players hung out with fans in the stands, and some players even announced the starting lineup for one of the games.
For many, Little League was the beginning of their baseball careers, and as the players see, they can accomplish anything they set their minds to.
