An Old Town homeowner believes a faulty battery charger may be to blame for a fire that destroyed two cars and briefly closed part of Pendleton Street.

The fire in a detached garage at 502 Pendleton Street was reported around 1 p.m.

Pendleton Street was briefly closed at St. Asaph Street while emergency crews worked to extinguish the fire in the garage.

By 2:20 p.m. the fire was completely extinguished. The owner told ALXnow that he suspects a faulty battery charger in the garage may have been the cause.

In recent years, fires related to battery chargers have become more common. Earlier this year, the Arlington County Fire Department held a demonstration about the dangers of broken batteries and overcharged e-bikes.
