Decoding fake information when looking for a job

Decoding fake information when looking for a job

On a Wednesday edition of Fox45 Morning News, Tom Rodgers spoke with Joe Gonzales, a regional director at Robert Half, about concerns about the qualifications of teaching candidates and the signs employers can look for when it comes to spotting fake information on a candidate’s resume.

One example of this occurred last spring when the former athletic director of Pikesville High School was arrested for using artificial intelligence to manipulate the school’s principal. It was later discovered that this man, Dazhon Darien, had misrepresented his qualifications for the job on his resume submitted to Baltimore County Public Schools.

When reviewing resumes, it’s difficult to figure out what a potential candidate is faking, Gonzales says. The best way to find out is through an in-person interview.

“Do the stories fit together? Is there information that someone takes from the resume to explain,” Gonzales said. “If you talk about your experiences, you can write about it. But the question then is, if it’s not true, can I talk about it clearly, and that catches up with everyone when you do.”

Gonzales went on to say that there are additional steps in the verification process for each position, but that each individual employer sets its own standards and processes to ensure that the information given to them is valid.
