Death of Nathan Jenkins: Cobb County Police hold press conference

Cobb County Police Chief Stuart VanHoozer will hold a press conference at 4 p.m. to provide an update on the death of 32-year-old Nathan Jenkins, who was shot and killed during an altercation with Cobb County police Friday night.

The shooting occurred around 11:30 p.m. at the Walgreens store at 2670 Cobb Parkway SE, near Cumberland Boulevard. According to Cobb County police, officers spotted Jenkins, an armed man from Valdosta, inside the store. A friend who was reportedly speaking to Jenkins via FaceTime at the time claimed he had his hands raised.

It is unclear what exactly sparked the confrontation, but Jenkins was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, where he died.

The CCPD confirmed that there were warrants for Jenkins’ arrest, but did not provide details about those warrants.

Family members are demanding a full investigation.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been asked to investigate the officer-involved shooting. This is the 48th investigation of its kind that the GBI has been tasked with.
