Deadpool and Wolverine writers reveal why there was no Daredevil cameo

A number of major stars appeared with special guest appearances in Deadpool and Wolverinefrom Jennifer Garner as Elektra to Wesley Snipes as Blade. Another Marvel movie hero from the past was also considered for a cameo, but the idea was scrapped fairly early in the creative process.



After watching Deadpool and WolverineSome fans may have been a little surprised not to see Ben Affleck as Daredevil. Filmmaker Kevin Smith spoke about the missed opportunity, saying Affleck should have been a “no-brainer” cameo. In an interview with IndieWire, co-writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick confirmed that Affleck’s Daredevil was “on the list” of potential cameos when the script was being written. However, the idea was not considered long enough to make it into an actual script draft, and Affleck was never approached about returning.

“We wanted to be daredevils… At some point Ben was on the list,” noted Wernick.

Since Affleck was not asked, it is unclear whether he would have accepted the chance to revisit. Daredevilalthough the Deadpool and Wolverine The writers have stressed how keen everyone was to be a part of the film. That’s largely due to Reynolds’ involvement, but even if that’s part of the deal, not everyone will be so quick to agree. The writers shared that Robert Downey Jr. turned down a possible cameo as Tony Stark, although that may have been for the best considering his recent casting as Doctor Doom in the MCU.


“So he reached out to these people, and there was rarely a ‘no,'” Reese said. “I mean, Downey was the only ‘no’ we ever got, I think, considering people just said, ‘Hey, I don’t want to do this.'”


The MCU had bigger plans for Robert Downey Jr.

In a separate interview with THR, Reese elaborated on the Downey situation, explaining, “It’s definitely something we played with. The MCU clearly had bigger plans for Downey, as we just learned, namely the Doctor Doom thing. Ultimately, I think that’s why it didn’t happen, although I don’t know the real reason why. There were talks. Downey and Jon Favreau were supposed to be in the scene together.”
