Danville leaders celebrate Old 97 CrossFit expansion

Danville officials celebrated the expansion of Old 97 CrossFit with a grand opening at the new facility on Thursday afternoon.

The fitness center recently moved—practically across the street from its previous location—to 416 Lynn Street. According to a press release, the center’s membership has grown from 50 in 2020 to 120 now.

The Danville Office of Economic Development & Tourism, in partnership with the River District Association, hosted Thursday’s celebration.

“Thanks to the tremendous support of the community over the past three and a half years, we are proud to expand into a new area in Danville’s rapidly growing River District,” Josh Francisco said in a prepared statement. “As someone who was born and raised here, I felt a responsibility to help make our city better instead of sitting back and complaining. We are proud to serve Danville and provide fitness, nutrition and accountability to anyone looking to improve their quality of life.”

The city of Danville contributed

“Today we celebrate more than just the grand opening of Old 97 CrossFit; we begin a new chapter of health and community here in our River District,” said Danville Mayor Alonzo Jones. “This gym is a testament to promoting wellness and camaraderie in our beloved city. Congratulations to Old 97 CrossFit on this exciting endeavor and here’s to a future of more sustainable, healthier lifestyles.”

The River District Association provided an additional $5,000 through the RDA Façade Improvement Grant to renovate the building’s garage door that leads to the fitness center, the press release said.

“It’s exciting to see Old 97 CrossFit grow and expand in its new location at 416 Lynn Street, and we’re thrilled to have been able to provide support through our Facade Grant Program,” said River District CEO Diana Schwartz. “The success of the River District business community depends on these small businesses that have the passion and willingness to bring something new to our downtown, and in this case, make significant investments in real estate ownership. It’s hard to believe that Old 97’s first opening was three years ago, and we’re excited to celebrate their move to a new and improved building.”
