The Danville City Council will issue a proclamation at its next regular meeting declaring August 31 as International Drug Overdose Awareness Day.
The aim of the day of action is to raise awareness of the consequences of drug overdose deaths, reduce the stigma of drug abuse, commemorate the families and loved ones of those who died from an overdose, and take action to prevent drug abuse and overdose deaths in society.
The council will present the resolution to the National Coalition Against Prescription Drug Abuse and Yamile Bowman, community outreach director of Evolve Treatment Centers in the Bay Area.
