Not all of Danielle Fishel’s Life and I Memories are positive.

The actress, who played Topanga Lawrence in the ’90s sitcom, recalled that one of the show’s storylines revolved around her and co-star Will Friedle’s appearance after they both gained weight.

In the episode of August 12th of Pod meets worldFishel, 43, told her co-host Rider Strong and guest Candace Cameron Bure about the meeting where she was told her weight gain would factor into the show.

“They called me into the office to tell me they were going to (write about it) – it wasn’t really what they asked,” she claimed. “Of course it was Will and I. Will had gained some weight. I had gained some weight. (And the writers said), ‘Of course you guys have gained a little weight, so we’re going to write an episode about it. And we just wanted you to know. And that’s how it’s going to be. It’s going to be really funny.'”

Fishel said the “hardest part” of the meeting was her co-star’s indifference.

“Will immediately said, ‘Oh, yes. I’m totally fine with it.’ He was, I now know, very insecure and it was really painful for him,” she recalled. “And for me it was more like, ‘Oh, wow.’ I hadn’t heard anything about it — no one had told me about it. I was aware that I had gained weight, but I was still a size 14.”

She continued, “And I remember thinking, wow, these people think I’ve gained so much weight that we need to do a whole episode about my weight gain… And I have to say, I’m OK with that because they didn’t even present me with another alternative. And even if they had, I probably wouldn’t have felt comfortable saying, ‘Yeah. I don’t want that.'”

Strong, 44, said even if Fishel had said something, it probably would have turned out worse. “If you had dismissed (that idea) – if you had said, ‘I don’t feel comfortable with this’ – that would have been the story,” he said. “It’s such a weird situation, so much pressure.”

Fishel admitted that because of this experience, thoughts about her body and weight remained “in my head forever.”

The topic came up because Fishel asked if there had ever been an episode about Bure’s weight. Full house.

“I had lost about 20 pounds from one season to the next,” recalls Bure, 48. “I had lost 20 pounds to start with, but they thought it was so great and said, ‘Oh, why don’t we have you running on an exercise bike in the opening credits? Just to promote that?'”

“Looking back, I don’t think it was a bad thing,” Bure said. “I mean, I really put in a lot of hard work and effort to lose 20 pounds.”

The difference, however, was that the Full house The writers spoke to Bure’s parents and herself beforehand and asked, “Would you feel comfortable if we wrote an episode like this?”

“And I thought, ‘Yeah, sure.’ But when you do it, it feels a little weird,” she admitted.
