Daniel Radcliffe wants the new Harry Potter stars to “still be allowed to be children”

Daniel Radcliffe urged people to let the young stars of the “Harry Potter” reboot “keep being kids.”

The 34-year-old actor rose to fame playing the titular sorcerer’s apprentice in the 2003-2011 film series and admitted he was grateful not to have to grow up in the spotlight in an age of social media scrutiny.

When asked if he had any advice for those who will play the young Hogwarts students in Max’s upcoming television series on the Tony Awards red carpet, he told Entertainment Tonight: “I have one piece of advice for everyone else. Simply: Let them be kids.”

“I can’t imagine what it would have been like in the age of social media. We were a bit further ahead then.”

But Daniel – who won Best Supporting Actor in a Musical at the Tony Awards on Sunday (16.06.24) for his role in “Merrily We Roll Along” – hopes he can meet the new Harry Potter at the casting and give him some tips.

He added: “I don’t know. Whoever that person is, I hope to meet them one day and face them face to face.”

The “Woman in Black” star had previously ruled out making a cameo appearance in the series.

He told ComicBook.com: “From what I understand, they’re trying to start fresh, and I’m sure whoever does it will want to put their own spin on it and probably won’t want to think about how to get old Harry to make a cameo appearance somewhere.”

Some fans had hoped that Daniel might have a small appearance alongside Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) and Emma Watson (Hermione Granger), but he doesn’t think that’s possible.

However, the “Miracle Workers” star stressed that he wishes the team “all the luck in the world” in bringing the “Harry Potter” books to life for a new audience.

He added: “So I’m definitely not looking for that in any way.

“But of course I wish them all the luck in the world and I’m very happy that this torch is being passed on. But I don’t think I need to physically pass it on.”

The new series was announced by Max – formerly known as HBO Max – in April last year, with each season of the show focusing on one of the seven books.

The films are set to run for over a decade as the actors grow old with the characters. Author JK Rowling will serve as executive producer alongside Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts.
