Daniel Radcliffe sobs as Richard Griffiths is buried

Daniel Radcliffe suffered “multiple” breakdowns yesterday during actor Richard Griffiths’ funeral.

The 23-year-old “Harry Potter” star appeared visibly upset throughout the ceremony, which took place at Holy Trinity Church in Stratford-upon-Avon, the burial place of William Shakespeare.

“Daniel obviously loved Richard very much, as did everyone who ever met him, and cried openly in the church,” said one mourner.

“It was a beautiful service and Richard must have been touched by how many people came to say goodbye.”

Radcliffe, who starred alongside Griffiths in the Harry Potter films – in which Griffiths played Harry’s uncle Vernon Dursley – paid tribute to the actor, saying he makes every room “twice as fun.”

He was one of many famous names in attendance, including Downton Abbey writer Julian Fellowes, Nigel Havers, director Bruce Robinson, David Bradley, John Nettles and Griffiths’ godson Jack Whitehall.

Actress Penelope Wilton read his favourite poem, “The Owl and the Kitten”, by Edward Lear, while former Bond girl Carmen Du Sautoy read from the book of Ecclesiastes and tenor Graham Neal sang “Danny Boy”.

Meanwhile, floral tributes came from Dame Judi Dench and Richard E. Grant, his “Withnail & I” co-star, who wrote: “To my beloved Uncle Monty, chin chin, all my love, Richard E. Grant.”

The 65-year-old actor, star of countless films but best known for his roles in “Withnail & I,” the television series “Pie in the Sky” and the stage version of “The History Boys,” died on March 28 following complications following heart surgery.
