The team behind London’s Daddy Bao will open a hidden bar called Good Measure beneath its Taiwanese restaurant next month.
Located beneath Daddy Bao in South London’s Tooting, the underground bar is inspired by the Taipei cocktail scene and opens on September 6.
Seating up to 15 in an intimate space, dimly lit by candles and set against a backdrop of infusions the team are working on, stacks of ingredients, spices and steamer baskets, the bar will serve a regularly changing menu of ‘strong’ cocktails, but with a Taiwanese twist.
Highlighting ingredients and flavors that play an important role in Taiwan’s culinary scene, these include an Old Fashioned with peanut-infused Buffalo Trace whiskey and brown sugar syrup, a Taipei Sour with plum, lemon, guava and cinnamon syrup, and a drink called Apricot Affair, which is a combination of plum sake, yuzu sake, Cocchi Americano and apricot brandy.
In addition, the bar offers a selection of non-alcoholic cocktails as well as Taiwanese bar snacks to complement the cocktails.
A playlist with old school hip hop and low fi provides the soundtrack for the evening.
Good Measure is open on Fridays and Saturdays from 6:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. for walk-in visitors only.
Daddy Bao and Good Measure co-founder Abhinav Malde said: “Good Measure will reflect our favourite bars in Taipei – an intimate space, cool vibe and quality drinks. It will have its own identity, different from Daddy Bao upstairs, with that fun energy you get from a hidden bar. It should be exciting to sit downstairs among our stock racks listening to an amazing playlist and incredible cocktail menu.
“Good Measure will bring something completely new to the area and be a natural place to enjoy a drink or two after dinner or to plan your evening. We’ve been thinking about opening this bar for a while but it seemed like the right time when we returned from a research trip to Taiwan with lots of ideas about how we could use the space.
“We have such a strong bar team at Daddy Bao who are constantly coming up with great drinks for the restaurant. It felt right to give them their own space to develop a whole new menu.”
The exact location of Good Measure is under Daddy Bao in Tooting, 113 Mitcham Rd, London, SW17 9PE.
