Electricity production in the Czech Republic fell by 5.6 percent in the first half of 2024 compared to the previous year, the Prague Energy Regulatory Authority (ERU) announced. Production in the period January-June 2024 was 36.1 terawatt hours (Twh). Production at the Dukovany and Temelin nuclear power plants fell by 10.8 percent compared to the previous year, and that of coal-fired power plants by 4.6 percent.

Electricity production at gas-fired power plants fell by 17 percent, while at hydroelectric power plants it fell by 2.8 percent. Production at photovoltaic parks, on the other hand, increased, growing by 28.4 percent in the first half of the year compared to the previous year. This increase is mainly due to solar modules on the roofs of private homes. Electricity production from wind power is also growing: +9.1 percent. The data on electricity consumption agree with those on production. In fact, net consumption fell by 2.3 percent compared to the previous year.
