Curious boy pulls out rare 3,500-year-old vessel to find out what’s inside, accidentally drops it during museum visit in Israel: report

A visit to a museum in Israel ended anything but ideally for a four-year-old boy: He accidentally smashed a 3,500-year-old vessel – and thus everyone’s worst museum nightmare came true.

During a tour of the Hecht Museum in Haifa, the young visitor “pulled lightly on the glass” because he was “curious about what was inside,” causing the glass to fall, said the boy’s father, Alex. BBC.

According to the museum, the artifact dates from the Bronze Age between 2200 and 1500 BC and was displayed near the museum entrance without glass because the museum believes that presenting archaeological finds “without obstacles” has a “special appeal,” the publication reported.

Alex told BBC He said he was “shocked” when he saw his son next to the broken glass and initially thought, “that wasn’t my child.”

According to the Hecht Museum, the boy and his family were invited back to the exhibition for an organized tour after the incident a few days ago, the BBC reported.

“There are cases where exhibits are deliberately damaged. Such cases are dealt with severely, including by calling the police. However, that was not the case in this case. The vessel was accidentally damaged by a small child visiting the museum and the response will be accordingly.” BBC quoted Lihi Laszlo from the museum.

The museum has now commissioned a specialist to restore the vessel and it will be returned to its place in a few days.
