Craft Memorial Library celebrates Dolly Day and invites local children to sign up for the Imagination Library

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. (WVVA) – The Craft Memorial Library is celebrating Dolly Day with a reading and by registering our area children for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.

The event will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at 600 Commerce Street.

Craft Memorial Library Director Eva McGuire and featured reader Diane Landy stopped by to discuss the event with WVVA’s Joshua Bolden.

The Imagination Library was founded in 1995 by Tennessee country legend Dolly Parton.

As part of this program, children from birth to the age of five receive a book in their mailbox every month, so that a maximum of 60 books end up in their homes.

Since its inception, Parton, known to the children on the program as “the book lady,” has distributed more than 2 million books free of charge to children.

Children will also receive a copy of “I am a Rainbow,” the reading from this issue of Dolly Day.

In 1995, Dolly Parton launched an exciting new initiative: Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, benefiting children in her home county in eastern Tennessee, USA. Dolly’s vision was to encourage a love of reading among her county’s preschool children and their families by gifting them a specially selected book each month.
